Colour

So far on my design context I have been collecting images and objects that have used colour well, from here I have used the Adobe Kuler website to create colour palettes for me to use in my designs.

I will keep collecting colour palettes throughout the module and identify what each one could be used for, mood, tone etc.

BJORN KELLER

BJORN KELLER STILL LIFE PHOTOGRAPHY

Swedish photographer Bjorn Keller knows how to do a lot with a little. His still life photography takes simple objects and turns them into beautiful graphic compositions without all the frou frou. I love all the white/airiness in these shots. It really gives the viewer the space to appreciate what is being photographed in a different light than one might see it normally.

MATTHEW BRODIE: PAPER DRESSES

It’s always nice to see a fashion spread that brings more to the plate than just the latest runway looks. In his Madame magazine spread, “Paper Dresses”, art director Matthew Brodie not only crafts his own props and set, he designs a whole collection of actual paper dresses, as well.
With some A3 sheets and a lot of perseverance, Matthew and his team—including a former pattern cutter and designer for John Galliano—create five complete dresses.

“WE REALLY WANTED TO CREATE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL FROM A MATERIAL THAT DOESN’T NORMALLY LEND ITSELF TO BEING DRAPED AND SHAPED ON A LIVING BEING, IT HAD TO BE APPARENT THAT IT WAS PAPER, BUT NOT BECAUSE IT LOOKED SHIT.”

FARROW AND BALL’S INTERIOR COLOR TRENDFORECAST

I am loving this interior colors forecast by paint and wallpaper company, Farrow & Ball. The palette itself is great, but what makes it feel so fresh is definitely the retro tones and the way of color blocking the walls and furniture. This is how I want to see color displayed when I am choosing for an interior, not just a chip of paint, which in effect looks nothing like it does on that 1×1 inch swatch.

ANDREW B. MYERS PHOTOGRAPHY

Toronto based photographer Andrew Myers was recognized in 2010 as one of the best emerging Canadian photographers by the Magenta Foundation. His compositions and colors are keys to his minimalist style. Photographing random 80s objects such as toys, vhs tapes, globes or old typewriters on simple, colorful backgrounds – the result is delightful!
Shot with a Canon 7D, all his digital photographs are then retouched to arrive to these beautiful color treatments.
